MySQL
MySQL is a widely deployed relational database that keeps rows in InnoDB tables with ACID transactions, foreign keys, and secondary indexes, served over the standard MySQL protocol. Replication through binary logs supports read replicas, failover, and point-in-time recovery, and the open-source server has one of the largest ecosystems of connectors, ORMs, and admin tools.
It remains a common base for content management systems, web platforms, and internal line-of-business applications.
Running the server in your own environment keeps the primary datastore inside your perimeter, the database licence is free, and backups are taken with tooling you choose.
